The last two days we spent the mornings working at Hannah’s Home and the afternoons leading Vacation Bible School. I did actually do a little bit of manual labor on this trip. I helped scraped paint off the walls and I helped clean some windows. Then, I made sure things were ready for VBS. Both VBS sessions went very well. Yesterday, we were in a community called Quince de Enero. This was the first time the group had been in this community which explains why at first the kids were just watching and not wanting to dance. However, once we got to the Chuchuwa song, they joined it. They seemed to love the puppets and they also enjoyed the craft. I had a terrific group. They followed directions so well and when we ended up being the first finished, they all joined me in dancing La Montana. Today’s VBS was in Lomas de Marchan. I really enjoyed tossing the football around with the kids before the start of VBS. I was also so happy to see Luis again (he’s the one who watched the puppets the other day).
When we were at Hannah’s Home, I spent much of my time with Daniella and Cristina. I will miss them very much. Today, Cristina sang for us. She has a beautiful voice. Tonight, we also got to see the kids from Hogar de Ninos one more time. They are so sweet. I’ve also really bonded with the members of our team. We’ve worked really well together and no matter who I am with, I’ve enjoyed being with them.
Finally, I want to thank those of you who helped provide financially for me to have this opportunity. It has meant a lot to me and I am anxious to share more of my experiences from this trip with you when I return. ~Theresa

Today I had the adventure of going to La Farmacia. We went to get medicines for the free medical clinic that will be near Hannah’s Home this weekend. We spent about $120 to get 3 big boxes of meds. They ended up giving us about as much meds as we bought. You don’t need a prescription, just ask for the medicine. We took the meds to the hospital and the director of the hospital was extremely happy and very grateful.
I also got to walk through the neighborhood and invite children to VBS. We had about a hundred kids and their parents there. I had played with a very shy little boy while we were waiting to start named Jesus. He was precious and played ball with me like Micah does.
He had a great right arm!
Later while singing was going on, I started talking to an older lady sitting in the back. She was dressed in native Peruvian clothing. I asked to take her picture and she agreed. I sat talking with her for awhile and showed her the picture I had taken of her. I accidentally went back to some from home and showed her a picture of my grandson Micah. Then guess who walks up to us but Jesus. It turned out he was her grandson.
It was very interesting to talk to her and see their relationship. I was amazed at how much alike people are in other places. I see God here everywhere I look! Blessings. Tina

What a beautiful day in Peru, the skies were not beautifully blue and it was overcast but we are making great progress on Hannah’s Hope and it is so wonderful to see God working in all of our people putting a lot of love and care into their handy work. I am truly impressed at how we all come together to work closely together in work and prayer and make progress in the home.

When the work was over, we went to a village Quince de Enero and held a vacation bible school for the families in the village. To see the joy on the faces of those beautiful children was worth a million dollars. They seemed to enjoy hearing the word of God in song, dance and prayer. What a beautiful sight it was bringing joy to all of our faces as well. Please remember to keep all the children over here in prayer as well my fellow mission travelers as we will be returning home soon.

God Bless
Brenda

Today we did exams on the children at the orphanage. They have the same trepidations that youngsters back home have, how amazing! I also had the pleasure of meeting Emanuel the infant with the colostomy and Luis a six year old whom Child Reach helped get his colostomy repaired. What beautiful children and moms! The smiles on their faces melt away any fears you may have on being in a different environment and culture. What a true joy and heart warming experience to share the love of Jesus with these children. The blessings I have received back are seventy times seven plus. The innocence of these little ones and their unlimited love and sharing of it with us is truly proof that Jesus is working in the lives of each. Yes I was in my element today. May these little ones be blessed and all who work with them.
God Bless,
Barbara

I am seeing more and more that richness does not come from finances but comes from the heart. This morning, we went to the orphanage, Hogar de Ninos, to give the children medical well-visits. I got the privilege of helping keep children entertained as they were waiting for their turn. It was really neat to see them get so excited about the craft and put so much effort into their craft. You would think that they would have wanted to keep them as special memories. Yet, they gave them to some of the adults from our group who helped them.
Later in the day, I continued to prep for tomorrow’s Vacation Bible school. We set up the puppet stage to make sure we would know how to do it and practiced the puppet songs. There was an adorable boy named Luis who happened to be there at the time and he was absolutely entranced by the puppets. I was sitting next to him and every time I turned the puppet to sing directly to him, he raised his little shoulders and flashed the cutest smile my way. He also started singing with the puppets after a while. He even held hands with the puppet at one point. It was another moment I will treasure for many years.
When I leave Peru, I know I will leave more rich in spirit and can only hope to continue to build upon this spiritual wealth which is so prevalent in the places I have visited thus far in Peru. -Theresa

Today we worked on finishing trim work at Hannah’s Home. As we did it, you could see how the rooms looked more finished. First, they looked rough and then as we worked, they looked more finished. It reminded me of how when we first become a Christian and don’t know the bible, you are kind of rough, but as you work more and learn more about Jesus, you refine yourself as a Christian. I remember one of Lynn’s instructions to us. He said we should me more concerned about the quality of what we do and not so concerned about getting it done fast because we want it to be better for people who make use of the facility. – Albert

We have had a fabulous week so far and unfortunately it is half over. First of all the high temps have been in the mid-60’s. Secondly, we have the most awesome group of people on our team-with great spirit, great sense of humor and generous hearts. And there has been so much progress made on this project since I was here a year and a half ago- I am amazed and very thrilled at the “light at the end of the tunnel”. Our Compassion Day exceeded all our expectations- that is the day we spend with our sponsored children and their parent. I truly feel closer to our Dasly and her Mom. Many of us are already dreaming and planning of our next trip here. Thanks to everyone who made this trip possible…..Love, Kate (that would be Mom to you, Jason.)

Wow! another great day in Peru. Today at Hogar de Ninos, four of us got to do crafts with the kids while they waited to be called in by our medical team for a check up. The crafts had symbolism about God’s love and how he makes us new. After that we made our final preparations for VBS tomorrow. We are ready!

The team got an early start this morning as many team members were going to see their Compassion children. Plus we had to leave early so the scheduled transportation strike would not interfere with our day. The meeting place chosen was fabulous! Groups were able to take their sponsored children to a zoo, bowling alley, volleyball court, open area for playing frisbee, playground, or sit by the swimming pool. After lunch a surprise birthday party was given in honor of each child. They loved the pinata. Each child and family was prayed with before they boarded the bus taking them back to the Compassion office. It was hard for everyone to say good bye to their children. Some families will return home early tomorrow morning, and one family will arrive on Thursday. Every person made huge efforts to visit each other.

After leaving the meeting area we stopped at a mall in Liima. The grocery store was on one side…hardware store on the other. God was faithful to get us back to the hostel safely.

We are expectantly looking forward to what God has prepared for us tomorrow.

grace and peace,
Cyndi
