Hey folks
My name is Spence – I’m the youth leader at First Church in Williamsport, PA. My kids are having a blast in New Orleans. Over the last few days, we’ve had the opportunity to get to know the folks at Trinity Christian Community and they’ve been awesome models of what faithful servants should be like.
Some of my students have been able to serve alongside Trinity at their day camp. We’ve had between 30-40 kids out to learn about cooking, gardening, science and sports. The students have enjoyed loving on the kids from this neighborhood.
Another group of our students have been doing some restoration at an old church that had been badly damaged by Katrina. We’re scraping mold and bleaching from walls and ceilings and beginning to prime rooms for paint. We’re hoping that we’ve been able to be a blessing to All Nations Fellowship, who will be moving into the building when all of the necessary work has been completed.
One highlight from the week has been serving dinners at the New Orleans Mission to the local homeless population. Our students have had the chance to love people who are in poverty and hopefully show them the goodness of Jesus Christ through smiles and handshakes and service.
Thanks to Jeff and Childreach for helping make this trip happen. We’re hoping that the rest of the week continues to build on what God’s doing these the first few days. If you’d pray for my students to keep open eyes and open hearts and to begin to “get it,” through their time serving the people of New Orleans, I’d greatly appreciate it.
If you’d like to check out some of our pictures and videos, you can head over to our fuse*sm blog.
Thanks! Be God’s!
Spence

The group arrived safely tonight at 5:30pm. We were able to have dinner, get settled, and had a wonderful time of worship and prayer time getting ready for the week.
God is good and he reminded us tonight that He has prepared great things for each person this weekk. Our challenge is to:
1. Have eyes that sees the need.
2. Have a heart that loves people.
3. Serve with our hands.
4. Reap the rewards- Joy of serving.
More to come later! Monday will be a busy day.
Good night!

I have made it to New Orleans tonight. I am getting settled in and looking forward to the groups arrival on Sunday night. The team of around 32 High School students are from Williamsport, PA. We will be doing some construction work during the week and at night our plans are to do some children’s ministry in the community and also serve at a local Homeless shelter. One of the projects that we might be working on this week will be helping a local church that was flooded from Katrina. Also during the day we will have a team staying back helping with a Kids Day Camp that meets with our host ministry.
Keep checking back for more updates and information!!
Blessings,
Jeff
